Crack the Code
by Cheryl Raye (I wrote this poem 2 years ago for others with Cerebellar Ataxia because I know their pain-I have it, too. The poem was published in GENERATIONS, the magazine published by The National Ataxia Foundation in the summer of 2003.)
Let's Crack the Code
Let's play the game.
In our Abode
Where it's tame.
To find the solution:
A piece of the puzzle.
requires concentration
To end this trouble.
A disease resides in my brain
and restricts my right to stand tall.
A cure would evict this constraint
And rescue my neighbors from the fall.
Restrained people will delight in the day
When research efforts result in a win.
"We deserve a cure", we heartily say-
"Let agility begin, once again."
A cure would produce a regain
And support our right to stand tall.
We can live freely-unrestrained
Never again to dodge the fall.
A cure's the solution
To finish this torment.
Needed concentration
Will cease the confinement.
Let's crack the code
Let's find a cure.
In our abode
Our life is pure.
