Carrey and Burton
30 Nov 2005

By Nicola West (Web Correspondent)

In what would be a a first-time teaming, Paramount Pictures is negotiating with Jim Carrey and Tim Burton to star in and direct, respectively, an action-comedy film based on the life and exploits of columnist and explorer Robert Ripley, who rose to fame writing his Ripley's Believe It or Not column. Should deals for the talent come together, the studio will being filming next October in London with a planned 2007 release.

Burton and Carrey are in early negotiations to direct and star, respectively, in the movie, which is being produced by Alphaville's Jim Jacks and Sean Daniel along with producer Ken Atchity and executive producer Chi-Li Wong.

Richard Zanuck, who worked with Burton on "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "Big Fish" and "Planet of the Apes," also is in negotiations to produce.

Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander, who penned Man on the Moon, wrote the script, which will pick up Ripley's life after he has already achieved fame for tracking down and reporting on some of the world's greatest oddities.Ripley became a larger-than-life personality in the '30s and '40s, well-known for going around the world looking for oddities and getting into adventures while doing so. However, while Ripley makes his living bringing to light these oddities, he also comes to appreciate his unusual human discoveries on a personal level.

This will be a first time collaboration for Carrey and Burton who is said to have specifically requested Jim Carrey for the part.

He has good taste!
