Welp, the results are in, ladies and gents. And are they are impressive. "Bruce Almighty" slammed "Matrix Reloaded" to the No. 2 spot. Three-day opening box office earning results shows "Bruce Almighty" took in $70.5 million. This sets a new record for a three-day opening for a non-sequel comedy. The previous record was held by "The Grinch" at $55.1 million. Sorry, Jim, looks like you just outdid yourself.
Universal estimates that "Bruce Almighty" will end up with a staggering four-day Memorial holiday take of $86.1 million. This would make "Bruce Almighty" the No.2 four-day Memorial holiday release just behind "Jurassic Park: The Lost World" ($90.2 million) which was released back in 1997.
Final four-day Memorial holiday results will be released by studios Tuesday.
