You have such big yellow eyes, Mr. Grinch!
01 Jan 2001 Anyone who wears contact lenses knows about the really joyful experience that is having some speck of dust or other strange particle niche itself between the lens and the eye. Now imagine that feeling when you're wearing 24 millimeter (0.94 inches) diameter lenses as Jim Carrey did in "Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas". Not a nice thought is it? But nevertheless how uncomfortable the lenses were, they are indeed an impressive work of art and verisimilitude combined with high technology.
The company responsible for manufacturing the lenses was Professional Vision Care Associates, which already counts in its curriculum with a long and prestigious list of other unusual cinematic looks as the ones displayed by Michelle Pfeiffer and Jack Nicholson in "Wolf", and Arnold Schwarzenegger in "Batman & Robin", among others.
The Grinch's famous (or infamous) yellow hand-painted lenses can be seen at PVA's site, listed below. And while you're at it, why not make your order for this year's Halloween? ;-)
