Robotnik Won’t Be Recast if Jim Carrey retires
09 Apr 2022

By Eva Araújo (Web correspondent)

First things, first: It’s true that Jim Carrey mentioned that he’s retiring from acting. But the words that the media keep ignoring is that he also said that, if the right script/story comes along he would come back. He also has mentioned that one of the reasons he loved playing Robotnik is how the character keeps evolving and the main reason he didn’t do many sequels was precisely because he felt playing the same character isn’t something new anymore. Jim likes new challenges.

At the blue carpet event for the premiere of "Sonic the Hedgehog 2", a journalist from IGN asked the producers of the movie (Neal H. Moritz & Toby Ascher), if they had a plan, in case Jim didn’t play Robotnik anymore.

They didn’t hesitate to answer:
“Jim Carrey is always a member of the Sonic family and he will always have a place in these movies and TV shows as long as he'd like to be around. We love Jim and he's so special, and what he does with Robotnik is so incredible, we would love him as long as he would like to be there with us. I have a feeling that he loves Robotnik so much that I don't think he'll be able to walk away from that.”

When asked if he'd recast Dr. Robotnik in "Sonic 3" if Jim does go through with his retirement, he replied: "We wouldn't even try."

Jim is up for any challenge and since Robotnik keeps evolving I think it’s safe to say Jim will be playing him again. Acting, painting, anything really… we are still gonna be here to watch, to appreciate and love.

We at JCO will keep you updated as more news come.
