Help Wanted: Oscars Host
07 Dec 2000 Do you think Jim Carrey should host the Oscars? |
In a somewhat ungraceful way, Crystal then affirmed that Jim Carrey refused to participate in last year's film parody (the shower scene that Kevin Spacey finally agreed to do) because "Jim has some bad feelings about not being nominated. It's not like he was in a box office flop. I mean, Kevin Costner helped us out after 'The Postman.' It's just in good fun."
Besides Jim Carrey, Crystal also mentioned Jay Leno and David Letterman as possible choices. The responsibility of choosing the event's emcee rests with the show's producer who hasn't yet been selected.
If "The Bijou" (a.k.a. "The Majestic") principal photography continues to be scheduled for a March 1st start, there seems to be also very little chance that Jim Carrey will be available to host the event, which is set to be telecast live from the Shrine Auditorium, L.A., on March 25th. The nominees will be announced February 13th.
