Jim Carrey Steps Down as SNL's Biden
19 Dec 2020 By Lucas Allen (Web correspondent)
In a surprising bit of news over the weekend, Jim Carrey announced on his Twitter page that he's retiring from playing presidential-elect Joe Biden on Saturday Night Live. Carrey had portrayed Biden for the cold opens of the first six episodes of the show's 46th season.
Here's his full statement:
“Though my term was only meant to be 6 weeks, I was thrilled to be elected as your SNL President. I would love to go forward knowing that Biden was the victor because I nailed that (expletive). But I am just one in a long line of proud, fighting SNL Bidens!”
While we weren't expecting Jim to make that decision, it's likely he made the choice to focus on the production for 2022's Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Hopefully one day, he'll return to the show as host even with somebody else in the role.
