Sonic Heads to Digital Early Before Blu-Ray Release
22 Mar 2020 By Lucas Allen (Web correspondent)
After grossing nearly $150 million domestically to become the highest grossing video game adaptation at the US box office, it's only natural for "Sonic the Hedgehog" to consider when to be released on home media. Usually, films like this have a theatrical window before it's released on home video. During the VHS and DVD era, we have to wait around 5-6 months for a blockbuster film to make it to video. Nowadays with Blu-Ray and Digital, that window has been decreased to 2-3 months.
However with the COVID-19 pandemic taken effect and movie theaters closing for the time being, studios are now taking measures to make sure entertainment content are fast and ready for those stuck at home. With this movie, Paramount announced it'll arrive early to digital and VOD platforms on March 31st. Now you and your children will enjoy the most hilarious moments with Sonic and Jim Carrey over and over again in the comfort of home.
Also, the film will be released on Blu-Ray and 4K UHD on May 19th at your local retailer shop. Special features are not known at this time, so be on the lookout for a future update.
