"Dumb & Dumber To" Finds A New Studio!
19 Jun 2013 By Lucas Allen and Jack Bristow (Web correspondents)
Very good news for us Jim Carrey fans everywhere. After being passed by Warner Bros./New Line Cinema, "Dumb and Dumber To" has found a new home in Universal Pictures. The film that has been written and will be directed by the Farrelly brothers will be produced and financed by Red Granite Pictures and distributed by Universal, which celebrated its 100th anniversary last year. Both Carrey and Jeff Daniels are expected to return and it's rumored to start production later this summer.
The project has encountered many speedbumps, since the Farrelly brothers first expressed interest in resurrecting Harry and Lloyd to the big screen some two years ago. Last June, for example, Jim Carrey temporarily dropped out of the project, citing Warner Brothers lack of enthusiasm for the sequel as his primary motivation for leaving. "I would have thought 'Dumb and Dumber To' was a no-brainer. After all, it's implied in the title." Shortly thereafter, Carrey was once again back on-board, and rip-roaring to jump back into the skin of Lloyd Christmas once again. But fans of the 1994 classic were beyond dismayed when news broke out just last week that Warner Brothers, now parent company of New Line Cinema, was going to pass on the project.
2013 marks another profitable year for the major studio, Universal Pictures. They released such major hits as the comedy Identity Thief, the sci-fi/actioner Oblivion, the action-packed sequel Fast & Furious 6, and the low-budget thriller The Purge. The studio is hoping to score more hits throughout the rest of the year including Despicable Me 2, R.I.P.D., Riddick and "Kick-Ass 2" (with Jim Carrey).
The plot of the new sequel involves Harry and Lloyd trekking around the country searching for their long lost children.
Stay tuned for more details.
