Casting Update for "Burt Wonderstone"
31 Oct 2011 By Tommy Pihl (JCO Editor-In-Chief)
Earlier this month we brought you the great news that Jim Carrey is going to star in the upcoming New Line comedy "Burt Wonderstone" with Steve Carell. It will be the first time they work together since they provided the main voices in "Horton Hears a Who".
Carell stars as half of a once-successful Las Vegas magic duo that must reunite to square off against a hot-shot street magician (Jim Carrey) whose tricks are often dangerous.
There are other interesting casting news these days. James Gandolfini (The Sopranos) is in negotiations to join the comedy. He is in talks to play Doug Munny, a classy billionaire who owns the Aztec Casino, where the title character and his partner perform their show.
As for the female lead, New Line is focusing on just two actresses, Olivia Wilde and Sarah Silverman.
Don Scardino is directing "Burt Wonderstone", which New Line began developing in 2006 when it bought Chad Kultgen's spec script. The "Horrible Bosses" team of John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein penned a rewrite and Oscar-nominated "Up in the Air" scribe Jason Reitman performed a polish.
Filming begins January 2012.
