Chris Columbus in talks to direct Ripley's
24 Oct 2008

By TNPihl (JCO Editor-In-Chief)

According to Variety.com, Paramount is negotiating with Chris Columbus (director of two of the Harry Potter movies) to direct "Ripley's Believe it or Not" and still with Jim Carrey as Robert Ripley.

A few months ago Kenneth J. Atchity (producer of Ripley's Believe it or Not) informed Jim Carrey Online that they were close to a new director. Now it begins to look very promising again.

Ripley's Believe It or Not

Once Columbus’ deal is closed, Paramount will hire a writer to draft the project. They are aiming for a 2011 release and is hoping the movie spawns a franchise.

Originally "Ripley's Believe it or Not" was set to be filmed in November 2006 with Tim Burton as director, but was delayed in the summer same year. In December they hired Steve Oedekerk to re-work the script. The movie was finally looking to move forward with planned filming set in early 2008. But suddenly Tim Burton dropped out in fall 2007 and the movie was again delayed.
