Yeah, one of my best friends left for New Orleans a few weeks ago to shoot a film...was supposed to be out there for 7 months. She sublet her Hollywood apartment to a girl coming in from London. My friend showed up on my doorstep Saturday night at 1 AM...she had been evacuated so the movie studio had chartered a plane to get the crew out of there. Her car is still there...under water no doubt. She had just rented an apartment to get out out of the hotel, rented furniture...the furniture was delivered Friday...all under water now. She's holding it together pretty well...just grateful to have gotten out of there.

I'm glad you're friend made it out. They say it is the worst in 100 years.
It's hard to believe that a disaster in one area can effect the whole continent. Just look at the gas prices. "There's got to be a morning after" In Canada they had "Hurricane Hazel" but this is no comparison to what happened in New Orleans. The night before the storm hit I had a dream about a woman who wanted to go on a bus to New Orleans, in the dream I was at a trailer park and was making arrangements and the woman was so grateful, then we realized the car tire that was to take her to the bus was flat, she missed the bus" I woke up feeling sad I could not have helped the woman to catch the bus,(it's funny to feel sad about dreams that aren't real) then later that day I heard about the flooding etc. " I thought gee " if my dream were real and had worked outl, I would have sent her on her way to disaster. It was so weird, maybe with all the hype about it striking, I ended up dreaming about it.
for anyone who has been to new orleans, you know what a wonderful culturally diverse city it is. so much history. so much - well everything - food, drink, architecture, voodoo, mojo - the works.
i was only there only for a few days but am blown away by the devastation knowing where the footage on the news is coming from. these poor people - literally - most of the ones that were left behind were VERY poor, most without their own transportation or money for transportation or much of anything but basic existence items. that's why they didn't leave when told to evacuate. these people now are literally TRAPPED like animals on little areas of land or their own rooftops. WOW i get really depressed thinking of them. 90 degree heat, no electricity, no running or clean water and nothing left that you own - so many lives are about to change. please keep those people in mississippi and louisianna in your thoughts and prayers. those areas are in serious need of some miracles about now.
It's truely appalling...............it's like the tsunami all over agin.............just dreadful.....................
and Fats Domino is Missing too...........!!!!.............he's part of American Jazz royalty and he's been missing since it happened..... and the place is in chaos..dead bodies everywhere.................people literally dying in the Superdome...........no food, no water and dreadful heat................. it's like the third world...............disease is starting............looting and ransacking what's left of peoples homes.......help can't reach the victims because people are literally fighting with guns on the streets.........it's appalling.............. so so so sad................. ........my heart goes out to all.............. fluffy Fluffy
and it's all happenning in the USA!!!..............it looks as though it's happenning in some destitute war ravaged 3rd world country.............
they need to get the military in there fast......................this needs to be done as though it's an army operation............they have to evacuate............they have to get water, food and medical supplies in..........and if those little gang weasels try and stop them they should shoot to kill.................. and Fats Domino has been found folks................. fluffy Fluffy
My opinion..is that they need water, main thing to survive.
What are the prices like in canada?? It is truly a sad situation for the people of new orleans. This is heresay, but I heard a rumor that a man shot his sister over a bag of ice down there!! That is pathetic!
Gas prices are high here too!Our prices are between $1.16 - $ 1.40 per litre double that and that's almost the equivilent to a gallon.
It changes very quickly in morning it may be 1.16 and by the afternoon it is $1.40, very strange indeed. Everyone is talking about it, you come into work and everyone is comparing how much they paid for gas and where. Indeed it is the main topic of converstion.
oh jeez..................that's tough................ours will shoot up as well..........but it won't go as high as that...............the last time all the lorry drivers went on strike and blockaded the entire country............it ground to a halt...............i worked at the childrens hospital at the time and the ambulance helicopters were flying over my classroom every 10 minutes...........it was really un-nerving................but the kids thought it was great..............
