Close Calls?

Postby Filomena » Mon Aug 08, 2005 6:32 pm

Has anyone ever had an experience they would refer to as "a close call"? Or "near death" experience? Lucky to be alive? Etc. etc.?

Just a mere twenty minutes ago, I took my usual lunchtime walk down to the lake, and on my way back, a van hit me without even realizing it. Okay, I'm not typing this on a laptop in the hospital. I just hit her side view mirror and did a funny push-up-type thing on the side of her van, to get out of her way. AND I HAD THE RIGHT OF WAY!

If I had been walking a teensy weensy bit faster, she would have hit me head on! She slowed down a second later, bc I think she heard the noise from my water bottle as it hit her mirror.

Suffice to say, that was my close call. And not even a scratch! (although it took me a while to get over the shock)

Anyone else?

I stepped out in front of a car when i started high school a long time ago. If the lady hadn't done an emergeny stop, she could have killed me.

This is not a close call like you guys had, but I am mad and need to talk about it:

Anyway, I was riding my three-wheeled scooter around town, and I crossed the street using the cross-walk. I got almost across the crosswalk, and some nut in a red car is making a right turn- completely blocking me from driving up the curb. I mean-I had to stop in the middle of traffic-vulnerable to possibly getting hit by some car when their light turned green. It was so scary-AND TOTALLY HORRIBLE, RUDE, AND THOUGHTLESS.

I have also been driving in a crosswalk in the center of town-when a driver did not stop, but sped right passed me. I had to stop, in the crosswalk (I had the right of way) and there was an inch of air between my scooter's front and that car.

I need a horn like the 'MASK' had: A O O G A H! That might startle rude drivers.

Another time, I backed the scooter up after pushing the button on the traffic light post to cross the street, but I didn't see the 3 foot drop behind me. I fell out of the scooter, and it landed on me and pinned me to the railroad tracks(there was not a train coming). I used all my strength to get loose and rolled away.
Someone finally stopped to help me. I was so glad because when the scooter fell over-the batteries came out. He had to lift the seat off (I can't do that) and replace the batteries. Thank God for him! Now, I turn around in a parking lot before I go to that traffic light. (I just had a bruise on on leg and back).
