All those people, hopes, dreams, lives- gone in such a short time.
Oft times people think of #'s, but I think we have to remember they had lives, and have loved ones, people who cared and care about them.
Pray hard, what else can we do, being so far away.

Health issues can be a threat, hopefully the authorities are

aware of all the health hazards that are possible.
Proceedures should be in place, just ask the people of Walkerton,
they know all about the effects of what happened to their little town.
This is such a large area.
Proper cleanup is essential, preventative innoculations I believe may be necessary. This event could effect the whole ecosystem of the planet. I wonder what Suzuki says about this???

My cousin and his girlfriend are paramedics and he said earlier that they might be going to Louisiana to help out.

My friend couldn't take watching it on the TV anymore, she got in her car and drove to Mississippi. She called us when she got there and sent us a list of needs for the people in the shelters. My Mom and I spent the past two days boxing up clothes, diapers, toys and toiletries into a semi truck which is off to join her. When I got home this afternoon I broke down and cried for at least an hour, it was so overwhelming I couldn't stop. I can't imagine what these people have to deal with. I thought my life sucked, but at least I have a home, a job and know where my family members are. I'm exhausted, still recovering from walking pneumonia I have very little energy but I had to do something other than put money in an envelope. I feel like I did something productive and it's a good feeling. I just wish I could do more, but traveling for me right now is out of the question.

Yes... at a church about 15 miles from here in Arkansas they have sheltered I think somewhere around 500 people from Lousiana, says my mom. We are thinking about giving a woman or someone a place to say here... I feel terrible for not being able to do more for them.

That is so neat carreyd_away. Wish I could do more than give money. It would take such a long time for these totally dispossesed people to get back to normalcy. Yeah, and housing someone is the closest to normal they can get, kasper.

We had a disaster in Toronto some years ago, people had to be evacuated from Mississauga, my mom went to the community centre and talked to sme of the people who were there and brought a couple home to stay for a week or so, all went fine, now my mom did not have a whole lot and we were in just a small apartment, but she helped the best was she knew how, I still miss my mom, she was a good example to me.
I'm starting to cry(dang it)
So all we can to is what our gut feeling tells us to do.
