I honestly don't know if it's done in the states...............it's a British thing..........every couple of years all the top British comics do something called RED NOSE DAY...........the whole day is dedicated to getting the public to do something funny and crazy for charity........then at night the BBC devote the whole night to comedy and raising money...........the money goes into projects in Britain and in Africa to help kids..........
The whole country goes red nose mad and you can even buy them for your car!!!!

We have comic relief in the U.S.A. It sounds similar to the Comic Relief in Britian. It is hosted by Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg and Robin Williams. A bunch of comedians do stand up and raise money for homeless people. Jim used to be part of this. If you buy Comic Relief V you will see him do his stand up.
