References with The Shawshank Redemption

I noticed (with a little help from imdb.com) that The Shawshank Redemption has been referred twice in different Carrey films. Should there be a reason to, or is it just coincidence? Does the producer of Ace Ventura love that movie, or does Jim love it?

The first one is in Ace Ventura, When Nature Calls: Ace Ventura fools the Chief and his son saying "Shawshank Redemption" in which Bob Gunton ("Quinn") played the Warden.

The Second one is in the Majestic: In the first scene of the movie, we see Jim Carrey's character reacting to the ideas of studio executives, one of whom mentions that the name "Floyd" is terrible, and that it has to be changed. Later on we learn that they changed the name to "Heywood", which an executive also says is terrible. Heywood and Floyd are both characters from Frank Darabont's earlier movie Shawshank Redemption, The (1994).

A funny note:
One of the Majestic's employees is named Irene Terwilliger. "Terwilliger" is also the last name of a character in Frank Darabont's Green Mile, The (1999). He was played by Jeffrey DeMunn, who plays Mayor Ernie Cole in The Majestic.

in reference to the Majestic, it was directed by Frank Darabont who directed Green Mile and Shawshank, so maybe its his little joke

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
J.T.
