how to spark creativity

Postby jhjones91 » Thu Aug 07, 2003 4:29 pm

You guys would all agree that Jim is one of the most creative individuals on earth. well lately i have been turning to him for alot of inspiration. see i work in a office, ok a cube, but thats not the point. Each day i have to put on the fake business guy persona and though my days are numbered there i was just wondering what would you guys do to spark your creativity in a dull environment.

Figure in your mind what's the absolute no no-est thing you could do at that office thing and then try thinking up something that;s even more not done. It will get your creativity flowingggg.
Dream. Daydreaming a lot helps. Visualising stuff.

I don't know.. for me it's harder to NOT do these things than to do them. Forbid me that side and I'll explode.

I'm the person that gets a fit of laughter at the dentist because the tools he uses reminds her of little Startrek weapons and in my mind I can see him already chasing the dentist assistance with it.

Yoga or anything alike. Is VERY hard for me. Things like that where you have to seriously...RELAAAXXXX breathe in and be silent and serious. Oh man. HELLLLLllLLlllll.

Boring office space.Hmm. I would start shooting with little bits of paper. Make endless rows of paperclips. Paint the cubicle.
Hmmm. I wouldn't be able to keep that job for long.

It's the urge to do the stuff you're not *supposed* to do.
cableclair

www.soiledmypants.com<-- my site
Failure isn't failure unless you give up...

Thank you for your adise. can you beliece that i just mispeled advise. Anyway, it's hard to be creative when everyone around you thinks Hans solo was the funniest guy ever and x-files was the greatest show. I'm not saying im better than these people or that x-files was'nt a good show, you know what im getting at. Everytime I try to be creative or funny I get punished for it. That goes back to grade school when my teacher would paddle me for disturbing the class. I would have to shake his and apologize before being able to go back in class. What he did'nt know is i'd wipe my ass with my hand before i shook his. AAAHHH sweet revenge. Ok now im rambling.

so many people i know have just left there imagination and creativity behind for a job. Is money really that important? Jim said himself that it would'nt matter how much they paid him for the movies he just loves the work and loves challenging himself and I think thats how we should evaluate our situations. If you were being paid next to nothing would you still be in that environment. Alot of people just don't understand that taking risks and being different is OK. I do stand up comedy and the crowd usually enjoys the show but the bar I do it at is reluctant to go along with alot of my new material. I just feel that sometimes I want to talk to somebody that will inspire me and push me.

Heyyy jhjones91!

I do standup comedy too, so I know exactly how you are feeling! I already thought you were one. If you want to write at my site at the stand up section about your experiences I'd be very very pleased :-D. HEREEEEE

I'm trying to get by with little snippets of extra-work (trying to get that acting carreer going is hard here in the Netherlands), now I've jumped on to selling artwork to see if that would work (if anyone wants to bid please do haha). But yea, business is slow and just whenever I'm on the urge of searching like.. a *real* job, luckely a bit of extra work shows up, and miraculously this wednesday that MTV man wants to talk with me. I rather jump bits here and there to get by than one of those regular 9-5 things. My soul wouldn't like it.

BUT.Running out of money now. I really want to move to L.A., which takes money. So bare with me the MTV thing will work out as something regular. Or that people want to buy my artwork and bid a lot on it, or that I get busy with acting things and that my standup comedy will take off. I had my first GOOD night last week. Laughs all through and an applause break. After failing with it so much and sticking to it so much that was a relief. So bare with me, so at least I can make money doing something I like doing, in staid of working my ass off for NOTHING at all and I don't even like it.
Cause I believe Failure truly isn't failure unless you give up. And I'm sticking to it.
cableclair

www.soiledmypants.com<-- my site
Failure isn't failure unless you give up...
